Drop-Off Productions proudly presents ‘The Road to Treefort’ featuring the whip-smart garage/punk outfit Pujol. Lead by Nashville-based polymath Daniel Pujol, the eponymous band expound on the kinds of societal analyses Pujol (the man) has always had a knack for putting forth in Pujol (the band). The songwriting is cerebral, examining well-worn subjects like love, death, authenticity, identity, alienation and society, in which Pujol applies a filter completely his own to bring these ideas to a place they’ve never existed before. His words examine the world with his signature brand of skepticism, humor, idealism, and an unmistakable earnestness and sincerity that pushes the intellectual boundaries of songwriting, while at the same time creating a superb, audacious punk rock record filled with moments of delicate beauty. The bands song catalog includes numerous singles, EPs and LPs on labels such as Third Man Records, Infinity Cat Recordings, and Saddle Creek Records. Pujol is currently finishing a new Pujol LP, produced by Drew Vandenberg (Of Montreal,Camper Van Beethoven, Cracker, Mothers) that’s slated to release sometime next year. Also on tour is the experimental pop music of Los Angeles-by-way-of-Provo duo, Sego. Often drawing comparisons to Death From Above 1979 or LCD Soundsystem, Sego is rhythm distilled and pure creating a palpable restlessness by mixing simple, repetitive instrumental parts with guitar licks that mimic kraut rock and spooky, alien synth tones. Sego’s dreary, abstract, stream of consciousness lyrical style often muses on the mundane in life, using word play, witticisms and slacker criticisms of the world they see around them, at times more reminiscent of Blur, Pavement, or Beck’s Mellow Gold era. The result is angular guitars and complex arrangements chalk-full of percolating and pummeling beats that coalesce into persistent, spastic grooves drenched in musings from an 80’s kid contemplating the void left from the misguided hope of our youth – equal parts jittery as they are danceable. On top of a series of singles, the band has released an EP and two full lengths on various labels, including French tastemaker Kistune and Canadian indie outfit Dine Alone Records, and recently premiered new track ‘Cigarette Kids’ via Consequence of Sound. Rounding out the bill before they hit the road to play their first Treefort appearance are local three-piece psychedelic garage rockers, Serpentfoot. Formed in early 2015, the band totes blasts of vicious, blistering rock’n’roll coupled with enough grab-bag experimentation and psychedelic warble that will make your teeth chatter. This is a 21+ show at the world famous Surfside 7, Tuesday, March 20 – Tickets are $10.00 and will be available online at www.surfsideseven.com, the ticketing link above and the bar.
