Drop-Off Productions Presents: Death Valley Girls w/ The Savage Blush
Drop-Off Productions proudly presents the hypnotic guitar drones and cult-like chants of L.A. goth-psych band, Death Valley Girls. On the surface level, Death Valley Girls churn out the hypercharged, in the red, scuzzy rock every generation yearns for, but there is a more subversive force percolating beneath the surface that imbues the band with an exhilarating cosmic energy. At their core, vocalist/multi-instrumentalist Bonnie Bloomgarden and guitarist Larry Schemel channel Death Valley Girls’ modern spin on Fun House’s sonic exorcisms, early ZZ Top’s desert-blasted riffage, and Sabbath’s occult menace – Bloomgarden, an emerald green Siouxsie Sioux-eyeshadowed pixie with the personality, voice and stage presence of a giant; guitarist Schemel mesmerizes with pentatonic guitar riffs and intoxicating blown-out fuzz-wah solos underscoring Bloomgarden’s consciousness-rattling. Starting with their 2014 full-length debut ‘Street Venom’, the band has spent the better part of this decade making high-octane garage rock indebted to old school Detroit punk, glam rock, and the melodic side of 1970s heavy metal. ‘Darkness Rains’ the band’s third and latest album, is a modern update on the brief flash in the ‘70s where heavy rock was being stripped down into punk. It’s dark, distorted, groovy and fun, a boiling cauldron of hot riffs, sharp beats, and searing vocals and it’s made them a favorite on the L.A. psych-rock scene. Featuring bassist Alana Amram, drummer Laura Harris, and a rotating cast of guests like Shannon Lay, The Kid (Laura Kelsey) and members of The Make Up, The Shivas, and Moaning – all help elevate the band from their rogue beginnings to a communal ritualistic musical force. Released on the-always-killer Suicide Squeeze Records imprint, ‘Darkness Rains’ retains its intoxicating convocations across ten tracks, climaxing on a rock n’ roll astral plane, which has always served as a means to elevate the fringe of society, the plights of the outcasts and misfits – a wave of white magic to wash away the outside noise. Also, on the bill are Fort Collins-based rock & roller’s The Savage Blush. Formed by siblings Rebecca and Joshua Williams in the summer of 2014, the band churn out a dirty reverberated mix of Garage and Surf with latin undertones and Psychedelic elements-Driving rhythms, hiccuped vocals, fiery guitar licks, and bass lines- it’s all rock n’ roll and it’s all here. This is a 21+ show at the world famous Surfside 7, Tuesday, October 08 – Tickets are $12.00 Advance/$15.00 DOS and will be available online at the ticketing link below and the bar beginning Friday, May 24.
