Drop-Off Productions Presents: Big Business w/ Special Guests Live!
Drop-Off Productions proudly presents the psychedelic heavy metal punk sounds of four legged powerhouse juggernaut riff machine, Big Business. In certain circles, Big Business need no introduction. The band have been staples of sludge metal for about 15 years – before that frontman Jared Warren played in sludgy punk band Karp and drummer Coady Willis played in punk n’ rollers The Murder City Devils, both also served as members of iconoclastic outfit, The Melvins. On their sixth full length album, ‘The Beast You Are’, the dynamic duo show their considerable strength as a heavy rock outfit. Big Business have trimmed down not only their personnel but also their sound with a set of songs which are urgent, direct and thrillingly compelling at their core. With a new, dynamic demoing process leading to the creation of the most songs they’ve ever written for an album, The Beast You Are delivers 13 doses of uncategorizably heavy rock music. From the ominous death march of “The Moor You Know” to the soaring “Let Them Grind” to the delicate, ethereal “Under Everest,” Big Business continues to defy listener’s expectations. The two performed everything on the album, which was recorded between the early November and early December of 2018 at El Studio in San Francisco by Phil Becker (Pins of Light, Terry Gross). Willis, Warren, and Becker handled the mixing, with Carl Saff lending his mastering expertise to the final product. The Beast You Are is such a refined collection of songs, and it gives recent Torche and Baroness records a run for their money as one of the catchiest modern sludge albums around. Many of the songs are poppy, heavy rock songs that could’ve dominated during the grunge era, and would appeal not just to fans of Big Business collaborators the Melvins, but also to fans of In Utero and Badmotorfinger. As a band that doesn’t really fit into what everyone else is doing, no matter the context of their music, however, one thing remains true: Big Business are definitely still a band. Additional support to be announced. This is a 21+ show at the world famous Surfside 7, Friday, September 13 – Tickets are $15.00 Advance and will be available online at www.surfsideseven.com, the ticketing link above and the bar beginning Friday, May 17.
